Holy Spirit: Week 3 - Devotion 2
“But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.” - 1 John 2:5-6
One of the hardest things about being a follower of Jesus is the fact that if we have a relationship with Jesus, we’ll be more like Him, but we also still struggle with sin. We know that Holy Spirit is working inside of us to make us more Christ-like, but there are some days where it feels like because of our sin, we are far less like Jesus today than we were yesterday. If that’s how you feel, you’re not alone.
Read 1 John 2:1-6.
Grab your journal or a note taking app and answer the following prompts:
· John gives a warning not to sin. But do you think John expect his readers to be perfect? Why or why not?
· Take a minute to pause and thank Jesus for forgiving you, for taking your place on the cross. One of the cool things about a relationship with Jesus is that it’s because we are forgiven that we are set free to be molded by the Holy Spirit.
· In what ways do you feel like the Holy Spirit is asking you to live more like Jesus?
· What are some areas in your life where you struggle? Write a prayer asking the Spirit to help you with these areas.
Close this time of devotion knowing that God is for you! He desires for you to be like Him. And the Holy Spirit is continually working behind the scenes to make you more like Jesus. Now that’s pretty awesome!
