God's Mercy: Week 3 - Devotion 1

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” – Matthew 5:7

Could you describe what it looks like to be a football player? Could you say what’s expected of one?

What about a dancer? Or a cheerleader?

You could probably do a pretty accurate job of describing what it looks like for someone to be an accomplished musician.

So what about a Christ-follower? Could you describe what it looks like to be a Christian? You probably could, couldn't you? But would the characteristic, "merciful," be in your description?

Jesus expects His followers to be people who show mercy to others. It’s in our DNA. He doesn’t want us to keep the goodness and kindness we’ve received from Him a secret. We must take the grace and mercy God has shown us and in turn show it to the world.

Where are you on the “merciful scale”? Have you been showing mercy to others? Why or why not? What will it take for you to be more merciful? Spend some time in prayer today asking God to reveal to you ways you can be more merciful to others.
