The Unchanging God: Week 1 - Devotion 1

“In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment.  Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.” – Psalm 102:25-26

Take a second and think about the things that cause you stress and anxiety in life. Think about the things that you regularly put your hope and trust in. Those things you look to for satisfaction and fulfillment. Have you identified a few of each? Good.

Think about this: where were those things when the foundations of the world were laid? And where will they be in 100 years?

Now, that’s not to minimize them or to say that they’re not important. It’s just to put them in perspective a bit. God was there before the foundations of the world were laid. In fact, He’s the one that laid them! And God will be there when we, along with our struggles and issues, pass away. But the crazy part of all of it is that He truly cares about us and our struggles. We’re just a blip on the radar of history, yet He cares about us and what we’re going through.

So, when we get stressed or begin to look to worldly things to satisfy, it’s important to step back and think about these things in relation to God. Can they outlast Him? Can they compare to His might? Are they too much for Him to handle?

When you get overwhelmed or off track, remind yourself of this passage and this truth. Our God is unsurpassed in power and might. He cannot be limited or bound by the things that limit and bind us. He will not waiver or perish. And He loves and cares for each of us deeply!
